Rayan Ait-Nouri shares his first impressions of new Wolves signing Nasser Djiga

Wolves enjoyed a productive end to the transfer window, signing two players on deadline day.

Wolves needed to act after an awful first half of the campaign under Gary O’Neil, and the club moved to land Emmanuel Agbadou from Reims early in the window.

Agbadou has already impressed, winning Wolves’ Player of the Month award for January.

Wolves then landed Nasser Djiga and Marshall Munetsi.

Munetsi has already made his debut for Wolves in the FA Cup game with Blackburn Rovers. Wolves fans enjoyed Munetsi’s display against Blackburn, and will seemingly be a goal threat from midfield.

Djiga hasn’t played yet, but is a player who Vitor Pereira may turn to soon – and Rayan Ait-Nouri has been impressed with what he’s seen in training so far.

Djiga arrived at Wolves from Red Star Belgrade, with the club paying around £10 million.

The star had impressed with the Serbian outfit, and has also already played in the Champions League.

Wolves actually first scouted Djiga in August 2022 when he was on loan at Nimes, so he’s a player the club have eyes on for quite a while.

The club decided to make their move a couple of weeks ago, and he’s already caught the eye of Ait-Nouri.

The Algerian told Wolves’ official website: “Nasser is the same, he’s a very young centre-back, but he’s very strong, has very good quality with the ball also, so he will help the team. I speak a little bit with him as he speaks French, so I’ve tried to help him because I was in the same situation when I first came here.

“But the most important thing is now he has joined the family, then we will give everything for him, and he will help the team.”

Djiga may need more time than Agbadou and Munetsi

It’s good to hear Ait-Nouri taking some responsibility and helping Djiga to settle in at Wolves.

For the moment, it seems like we may have to wait a while until he has regular involvement.

Munetsi and Agbadou are both more experienced than he is, and in their late twenties.

Djiga is still only 22 and although he’s played in the Champions League, he might need a bit more time to earn Pereira’s trust than the other two.

But with Matt Doherty not being a natural centre-back, there is potential for him to come in. Santiago Bueno struggled against Blackburn so it’s possible Pereira may be looking at Djiga ahead of the Uruguayan.

Republic of Ireland international Doherty has done quite well on the whole in that role though, and will be keen to keep his place.
