Raul Jimenez reveals the classy gesture David Luiz made after striker’s awful skull fracture injury for Wolves

Raul Jimenez was adored during his time at Wolves – and many will never forget the day his career, and life, was plunged into jeopardy.

Wolves bid farewell to the striker in 2023 after he’d spent four years at Molineux, signing initially on loan from Benfica.

Jimenez didn’t take long to endear himself to the Wolves fans, scoring goals.

Wolves signed him permanently, and Jimenez went from strength to strength, ultimately establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most complete number nines.

But everything would change for Jimenez when Wolves met Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in November 2020.

Arsenal had a corner, and as the ball came in, David Luiz and Jimenez both went up.

Jimenez was left in a crumpled heap, and medics raced onto the field. The striker was taken to hospital, where it was determined he’d suffered a fractured skull.

Jeff Shi called Jimenez’s head injury one of the most shocking moments of his time at Wolves, and plenty of fans agreed with that.

And the former Wolves number nine has been reflecting on that life-changing night.

In a recent video for TNT Sports Mexico, Jimenez was speaking about people who have been influential in his career.

Unfortunately, Luiz was part of the lowest moment in Jimenez’s career.

But Jimenez has not ill feelings towards the Brazilian, and actually shared something he did that was quite classy in the next meeting between the two teams a few months later.

He said: “I don’t have any resentment towards him, you know?

“It’s something that happened in football and that’s it, that’s it. I have nothing, nothing against him. I spoke to him at the time when the accident happened.

“I had some messages from him on my mobile. Then they went to play Wolverhampton for the second game, and I was in the park, they got beaten and as soon as he came off the pitch, he knew where I was and he came up there to see me in the park.”

A classy reaction from both Jimenez and Luiz to an horrendous incident

There was a lot of criticism of Luiz when Jimenez sustained that injury, which was just unfair.

He was just attacking the ball, and unfortunately the collision was just inevitable.

Jimenez quickly absolved Luiz of any blame and he has again said that he doesn’t bear any kind of grudge, which is good to hear.

And it was also classy of Luiz to seek out Jimenez, after he was sent off in the reverse fixture at Molineux.

Sadly, Jimenez just wasn’t the same player for Wolves after that injury. But thankfully, in more recent times, the Mexican has found form again at Fulham.
