Rafa Mir reacts on Instagram as striker receives Spain Olympics call

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Rafa Mir has been named in Spain’s Olympics squad.

The 23-year-old has got his just rewards for a fantastic 2020/21 campaign that saw him score 16 goals on loan at SD Huesca.

Mir’s goalscoring exploits were not enough to save the club from relegation.

But he regularly came in for praise from the media for his contributions.

Mir will now head for Tokyo this summer, and hope to help his team go for gold.

The 22-man squad is headed by Luis de la Fuente and actually includes six players still currently on duty at Euro 2020: Unai Simon, Pedri, Pau Torres, Eric Garcia, Mikel Oyarzabal and Dani Olmo (Charlotte Observer).

It is a proud moment for Mir, who has previously represented his country at U21 level.

It is perhaps a chance for him to continue his good recent form at club level, which could be a boost for Wolves.

Mir is a player who has been tipped to make some good money for the club.

Even Molineux technical director Scott Sellars recently suggested as such.

Mir’s future has been speculated over a lot in 2021, and it seems a lot of Spanish sides would be keen to land him.

It was reported back in April that Wolves would not want to accept anything less than £13 million for Mir.

Following his call-up to the Olympics squad, Mir took to Instagram to express his pride.

His words translate as: “Proud to be able to represent my country at the Olympic Games. A Unique opportunity, eager and excited to go to Tokyo! Come on Spain!!!”
