‘Put the tin foil hat away’: Wolves fans fire back after ‘incredibly disrespectful’ Matheus Cunha conspiracy theory emerges

There is never a dull day in the life of Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian striker is by far and away Wolves’ best player… But he’s also their most divisive.

Cunha was shown a red card against Bournemouth for violently clashing with Milos Kerkez. As a result, Cunha will miss at least three of Wolves’ next matches, including Saturday’s Premier League game against Everton.

Although the 25-year-old will be sidelined for Wolves’ upcoming fixtures, Cunha has been called up to Brazil’s squad for the upcoming international break.

And in light of the news, some fans online have been discussing the motive behind the striker’s recent dismissal…

Wolves fans not buying crazy Matheus Cunha conspiracy theory

Responding to the news that Cunha is in line to make his 12th senior appearance for Brazil, one fan suggested the striker had intentionally got sent off against Bournemouth.

His reasoning? — Brazil face Colombia and Argentina later this month in two important World Cup qualifiers. Cunha’s domestic suspension means he will be 100 per cent fit and firing for Selecao’s upcoming games.

Most fans weren’t having any of it though, and have been quick to jump to the Brazilian’s defence.

“You need to put the tin foil away. He got sent off because he’s a self-centred w—-. Nothing more, nothing less,” one supporter responded.

Another fan added: “Strange way of going about it. Honestly past caring. He’ll probably come back injured! We need to focus on the players who are available & keen to do well to prove themselves. Hey even Munetsi!”

A fourth supporter said: “Hmmm I don’t think so.. Red card happened at the last kick of the game. I think he just lost his head.”

“This is incredibly disrespectful,” another added.

Trouble or triumph

Cunha is a player who plays on the edge — we all know this, but suggesting foul-play is a step too far.

The South American may be a feisty character, but there is no way he’d intentionally sacrifice a place in the FA Cup quarter finals, regardless of what other games he has coming up.

Cunha’s sending off against the Cherries was his second dismissal of the season. Vitor Pereira, who has a great track record with forwards, knows he must get his number 10’s lack of discipline under control, but that’s easier said than done.

While Cunha’s temperament is sometimes the reason for problems, it is also sometimes the reason for brilliance — and we can’t forget that.
