Goncalo Ramos, who was linked with Wolves last summer, was on the scoresheet against Liverpool in the Champions League last night.
The attacker started against the Reds in Benfica’s second leg of the quarter-final.
It was a thrilling game that saw six goals scored at Anfield.
Benfica were always up against it after losing the first leg 3-1.
But they put in a spirited performance against Jurgen Klopp’s side, with a number of their players putting in good performances. The game finished 3-3.
Darwin Nunez scored again for the visitors to raise his stock further.
But there was also a goal for Ramos, who had peeled off into space. He was being played onside by Kostas Tsimikas, and finished with deadly accuracy at the near post.
That was Ramos’ eighth goal of the campaign so far.
Him finding the net meant that he became Benfica’s second-youngest scorer in the Champions League knockout stages, aged 20 and 297 days.
Last summer, O Novo reported that Wolves were interested in a potential swoop for Ramos.
Bruno Lage was said to be plotting a raid on his former club.
Nothing ended up materialising, but one wonders if Wanderers might look at going back in for the youngster.
Wolves to move for Goncalo Ramos this summer?
Ramos had a fairly sluggish start to the current season.
But he has really stepped things up in 2022, scoring seven of his eight goals this calendar year.
He looks to be a bright young player, who is capable of playing right up top or as a second striker.
Lage is known to want another striker this summer to provide more competition for Raul Jimenez and Fabio Silva.
He’s young with lots of room to grow, which is a big focus of the Wolves model now. And obviously, him being Portuguese is probably also something that appeals.
