Toti has recently come into prominence at Molineux.

He started four straight matches in the Premier League against Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Brentford and Leicester City.

He was fantastic in each game operating as a left-back.

On Tuesday night against Crystal Palace he was named on the bench. There was a quick turnaround from the game against Leicester City, so Julen Lopetegui brought in Hugo Bueno.

Toti did come on in the second-half and got around 15 minutes.

He struggled a little against the Eagles, picking up a yellow card shortly after coming on.

But on the whole, Toti has been excellent for Wolves when called upon.

And his form as not gone unnoticed, with Martinez mentioning him in his interview with Antena 1 radio.

He said (quoted by O Jogo): “I think our national team needs to be open-minded and do a high-performance environment. And it is important to have players like Toti Gomes, who has made good matches at Wolves, and who has an interesting profile.

“We need to follow players like that.”

Portugal’s next games are Euro 2024 qualifiers in June against Bosnia and Iceland.

So it looks as though Toti might be heading for an international call-up soon.

And that would be absolutely amazing because there are few, if any, Wolves players who have worked harder than him this season.

Toti has had to be very patient for chances at Wolves.

But when he comes into the team, he usually tends to gives a brilliant account of himself.

To go from unheard of loanee at Grasshoppers, to full Portugal international in just over a year, would be a brilliant story.
