‘Phenomenal’ Wolves ace praised after rare Emmanuel Agbadou occurrence vs Man United

Wolves recorded a fifth straight win in the Premier League on Sunday, beating Manchester United 1-0.

Wolves are the in-form team of the moment right now, with Vitor Pereira having made a remarkable impact.

Pablo Sarabia got the goal on Sunday. It was not a particularly great performance from Wolves at Old Trafford.

But everything seems to be clicking right now, and fans are rightly getting very excited about the future.

One of the most important things Pereira has done at Wolves is make the team more solid.

Since he arrived, he has overseen six clean sheets in the Premier League, which is so impressive considering Wolves could not buy one under Gary O’Neil.

Emmanuel Agbadou has been brilliant since signing from Reims.

But Dave Edwards did notice the Ivorian do something quite rare against Manchester United.

Agbadou has been a revelation for Wolves.

He is the signing the club have been crying out for, and he has elevated the level of those around him.

On Sunday against United, he was great again. But perhaps not at his usual, absolute imperious best.

Edwards has written about the star in his latest column for the E&S, and moved to praise Toti Gomes for bailing the Ivorian out a few times.

He said: “We haven’t seen it a lot this season but there were a couple of occasions where Emmanuel Agbadou just got caught out of position and wasn’t able to recover.

“But Toti’s recovering position was phenomenal. The speed and athleticism he showed to cover the ground, he made a huge tackle on Rasmus Hojlund when we was 1v1 at the start of the second half.”

Edwards branded Toti the ‘standout performer’ for Wolves, adding ‘the general dominance he showed was terrific’. Data backs up what was a solid display from the Portuguese.

Straight after the game, Edwards had hailed Toti as ‘immense’ on X.

Toti deserves his flowers

Agbadou has been amazing for Wolves, and was top again against United.

But arguably, Toti was better against the Red Devils, and during these past few weeks he has not been far off Agbadou’s level at all.

And it’s brilliant to see him making such a big contribution to Wolves’ cause.

Because he is a player who absolutely deserves this success.

Toti – who Mario Lemina recently described as a ‘wall’ – has had an interesting journey at Wolves. Signed by the club in 2020 and went straight on loan to Grasshoppers.

He returned to Wolves in January 2022 to cover the absence of Romain Saiss, who had gone to AFCON.

It took him some time to get into the starting XI. But now he is an absolute staple of this Wolves team, and no one plays that left-sided role better than him.

He’s a player who’s never kicked up a fuss when he hasn’t played and has always given his all for Wolves, and it is simply so satisfying to see him thriving.
