All three players were superb, and kept Erling Haaland extremely quiet.

Dawson led by example, and left Richards so impressed on Match of the Day last night.

He said: “Ballon Dawson! And he was fantastic today. Such an underrated defender wherever he goes, he does well. Today he did exceptionally well playing against Haaland. He wouldn’t let him out his sight early doors. He always knew where he was.

“It was such a mature performance from a centre-half. Did al the hard yards, heading the ball out. And it was his positioning as well.

“I just thought it was all-round perfection. It was just a wonderful, wonderful performance. this is as quiet as I’ve seen Haaland since he come to Man City. Just one shot, madness!

Dawson was impeccable vs Man City

This was one of Dawson’s very best displays since signing for Wolves for just over £3 million in January.

The 33-year-old was simply brilliant playing against arguably the world’s best centre-forward in Haaland.

He kept tabs on him the whole game, and was equal to everything.

Dawson hadn’t been quite so convincing in the opening weeks of the new season.

But he was utterly imperious yesterday when Wolves absolutely needed him to be.
