Pedro Neto leads way for chances created at U21s Euros in boost for Wolves

Wolves winger Pedro Neto is giving a good account of himself out in Georgia with the Portugal U21s at the European Championships.

Portugal are now into the quarter-finals of the tournament, having beaten Belgium in their last Group A match.

Joao Neves gave them the lead, before Belgium hit back through Yorbe Vertessen.

But Portugal claimed victory, with Thiago Dantas converted from the penalty spot with just a few minutes to go.

Portugal will now take on England, and it will be a game that will have many eyes on it.

Neto – who was ‘heavily involved’ against Belgium (via PortuGOAL) – will be the most well known player to England supporters, having been a first-teamer at Wolves since 2019.

And the England defenders will have to be on top form, because Neto, 23, has been a real livewire at the tournament so far.

Pedro Neto has created the most chances at the U21s European Championships so far

Neto has started all three of Portugal’s games at the tournament so far, playing 90 minutes twice.

He’s managed to grab one assist. That came against Netherlands, when he played with Fabio Silva up top.

While Neto only has one assist to his name, he has certainly been dangerous.

He’s created two ‘big chances’ – only Lois Openda has created more (3).

Currently, he leads the way for chances created at the tournament with seven.

Pedro Neto form for the Portugal U21s is encouraging for Wolves

It is great to hear that Neto is making a solid impression for the Portugal U21s.

He may be a little older than most of the other players and more experienced.

But Neto went into the tournament having had no real momentum.

The player only returned from an ankle injury in February, which had kept him on the sidelines since the start of October.

Neto needs this tournament to build up a head of steam.

Ideally, he’ll come back to Wolves for pre-season and then have a really productive few weeks before the start of the new campaign.

It is a real shame how Neto’s career has panned out over the two years. He has been really unlucky with the two injuries he’s had.

He was once one of the most thrilling young talents in the Premier League. It would be absolutely ideal if that player of two years ago could make a return.

He has spoken about the need to play more to get back to where he was. Hopefully he will get plenty of chances.
