Pedro Neto just made Wolves history with what he did in their 2-1 win v Tottenham

Wolves beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday – and Pedro Neto has written his name into the club’s history books.

Wanderers are back to winning ways, with Gary O’Neil‘s side putting in a fantastic performance down in north London.

Wolves have bounced back after the disappointing defeat to Brentford, after Joao Gomes scored a brace against the Lilywhites.

The game plan and tactics from Gary O’Neil were spot on, and the result is very impressive considering Wolver were without a key player in Matheus Cunha, who is facing a battle not to miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

Pedro Neto shone once again for Wolves, and the Portuguese winger actually made a bit of history yesterday…

Neto has been a creative force this season for Wolves.

The 23-year-old has been absolutely magnificent for Wanderers in the final third, and is firmly in the running to finish with the Premier League’s Playmaker of the Season award for 2023/24.

At the moment, he is one behind Kieran Trippier and Ollie Watkins (10) with nine in the league.

Against Spurs, Neto set up Wolves’ second goal as he raced down the right wing after being released by Gomes.

Neto’s blistering pace took him all the way into the area, before he cut back and found Gomes for the finish.

That was actually a history-making moment for Neto, who has now become Wolves’ highest assist-maker in the Premier League with 19 (via Squawka).

Neto so unfortunate to have picked up injury

So that’s now nine assists for Neto in just 16 Premier League appearances, and one has to wonder how many he’d be on by now had he not picked up that hamstring injury against Newcastle United.

He missed eight Premier League games for Wolves because of that, before finally returning to the bench against Brentford (against whom he didn’t play).

Neto – described as ‘outstanding’ earlier this season by Molineux legend John Richards – is assisting at a seriously impressive rate and had he not suffered that injury, he would surely be clear at the top of the chart at this point.

The record number of assists in a single Premier League season is 20, set by both Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry. It will be a tall order now for Neto to get that many, but who knows given his quality.
