Pedro Neto and Wolves stars react as Matheus Cunha shares message after late equaliser vs Brighton

Wolves moved off the bottom of the Premier League table yesterday after drawing 2-2 with Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

It was a result that has the potential to be the catalyst for Wolves, who turned things around in the last minutes of the game.

Gary O’Neil’s side showed terrific character on the south coast.

Wolves looked dead and buried when Evan Ferguson scored in the 85th minute, after Danny Welbeck had given Brighton the lead in the first-half.

But Wolves did not give up. Rayan Ait-Nouri gave the visitors hope, turning in from a corner.

And then Matheus Cunha, so often the man for big occasions, scored in the 93rd minute after outstanding work at the back by Tommy Doyle.

The celebrations were wild in the away end, and the result feels fairly significant. To earn a point at the Ameix is good going, and to do that from two goals down is impressive.

After Southampton lost to Manchester City, Wolves are now up to 19th in the table.

O’Neil’s side remain winless. But this result should give the players a lot of confidence ahead of a much more favourable run of fixtures.

Cunha took to Instagram after yesterday’s game, writing ‘A resilient moment 🐺’.

Resilience was certainly the theme of Wolves’ performance, and fans will hope to see more of that moving forwards.

A number of players responded to Cunha’s post, including former Molineux winger Pedro Neto.

Pedro Neto: ‘Que lindooo😍😍😍’ (‘How beautifulll’)

Jorgen Strand Larsen: ‘Crackkkk ❤️❤️’

Rodrigo Gomes: ‘❤️❤️❤️’

Santiago Bueno: ‘Que jugador!! 🙌🏼🔥’ (What a player’)

Tawanda Chirewa: ‘What a player 🏄‍♂️❤️’

Cunha integral for Wolves

A lot of credit must go to the superb Doyle against Brighton for his role in the equaliser. But Cunha was the man to put the ball in the net and it was such a big moment in Wolves’ season so far.

Yes, Wolves only took a point.

But there can be no denying how good it is psychologically. To come from two goals down against a great Brighton side, and to move off the bottom of the league table, are really big things.

Cunha is arguably Wolves’ best player and he rose to the occasion against Brighton. He stood up to be counted for, and scored a goal his performance deserved.

Going into these next eight games or so now, it is vital he has as much involvement as possible.
