It feels almost like the end of an era with former Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio confirming his retirement.
Rui Patricio will go down as one of the best goalkeepers to ever stand between the sticks at Wolves, as well as for his country, Portugal.
The goalkeeper made over 100 appearances for Wolves, and Patricio currently holds the record for the most clean sheets in the Premier League for the Old Gold.
Wolves fans, who is the best goalkeeper Molineux has ever seen?🤔
The Nuno Espirito Santo era just wouldn’t have been the same without Patricio, as he played a massive part in Wolves’ European push and quarter-finals finish in the Europa League.
He won eight trophies during his illustrious career, including the European Championships and the Nations League with Portugal, as well as the Conference League, Portuguese Cup twice, the Portuguese League Cup, and the Portuguese Super Cup.
Pedro Neto and Bruno Fernandes send messages to Rui Patricio
Pedro Neto and Rui Patricio played together 69 times at Wolves, with a points-per-game average of 1.51.
Meanwhile, Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes played 88 times and had a whopping 2.06 points-per-game average from their time together at Sporting Lisbon and Portugal.
Both players posted messages to their former teammate on Instagram after hearing the news of his retirement recently.
Pedro Neto stated:
‘Legend ✨🙏’
Bruno Fernandes went into more detail:
‘Thank you for everything Saint Patrick ❤️ A privelege to have shared the spa with you 🤲’
Wolves could do with Rui Patricio right now
Consistency has been a real issue at Wolves this season, and the goalkeeping department has contributed to this.
Jose Sa’s future is uncertain after a series of extremely disappointing performances at the start of the season, which cost Wolves several points.
With a goalkeeper wanted in January, who stays and who goes?😬
Meanwhile, Sam Johnstone has looked a lot better, but even he made the mistake that gifted Nottingham Forest all three points at Molineux recently.
A goalkeeper is clearly on the radar for January, given the reported interest in Christos Mandas, but it remains to be seen as to whether Wolves will actually pull the trigger.
