Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez has come in for huge praise from pundit Paul Merson.
Thankfully, the 30-year-old is now back in the picture for Wolves, after spending around six months on the sidelines after fracturing his skull last season.
Jimenez clashed heads with David Luiz against Arsenal back in November, prompting harrowing scenes at the Emirates Stadium.
He underwent surgery that night, and thankfully, the star has been able to return to the game he loves.
Wolves limped to a 13th-placed finish in the Premier League in his absence, and Merson believes the team was bound to struggle missing a player of his calibre.
Writing for Sportskeeda, he said: “Raul Jimenez is one of the best strikers on offer at the moment and is the most underrated player in the Premier League.”
Merson also believes Tottenham Hotspur could do worse than to target him as a replacement for Harry Kane.
“With the England captain possibly on his way out, [Nuno Espirito Santo] Santo will need to sign a replacement and Raul Jimenez suits the role to perfection,” he added.
Jimenez going nowhere
First and foremost, Jimenez will not be going anywhere this summer, despite Merson suggesting Spurs should maybe consider a move.
There is just no way he’d move given the injury he’s had and is still learning to play with.
What is not in any doubt though is Jimenez’s status as the Premier League’s most underrated player. If not the most, then he is right up there.
Prior to his injury Jimenez was absolutely at the top of his game for both club and country.
He was scoring goals and making them, and obviously the drop off for Wolves in his absence told its own story.
