Paul Merson predicts Wolves will smash Premier League record this season

Paul Merson feels Wolves will smash a Premier League record this season, and he is not talking about Derby County’s points record.

The Old Gold are still winless and are about to enter matchweek 15 looking for those much-needed three points.

The goal of survival seems an impossible task at present. After 14 games, the Wanderers are 12 points adrift of safety.

For any chance of staying up, Rob Edwards needs to pick up quite a few wins before the New Year, but Paul Merson is not expecting that to be the case ahead of playing Manchester United.

Wolves did the double over Manchester United last season! Hwang, Cunha, and Sarabia scored across the games, but only one is still at Wolves.

Amid their goalscoring woes, can Wolves find an answer for Monday?

Paul Merson does not have any hope for Wolves getting a win before the turn of the New Year, and in fact, he does not see where they will get one at all this season.

The former footballer turned pundit has not been impressed with them one bit, and the performance against Nottingham Forest did not help change that perspective.

Rob Edwards was left questioning his Wolves side’s mentality at half-time, as he asked them if they were scared to show some fight.

The head coach will need a much better performance on Monday and a completely different mentality against Manchester United, but Paul Merson is not convinced.

Matheus Cunha played for Wolves and Manchester United, and so has another current player at one of these clubs. Do you know who?

In total, eight players have played for Wolves and Manchester United since 1992. How many can you name? Let’s see who has the best ball knowledge. 💪

Speaking on his Sportskeeda column ahead of this weekend’s games, Merson said, “I don’t see where Wolves are going to win a game this season! Like I said last week, they needed 10 points from the next four home games and they have already lost to Nottingham Forest.

“After watching Wolves got destroyed in that 1-0 loss against Forest, I don’t fancy them to get even a point in the next three home games against Manchester United, Brentford and West Ham. In between these games they face Arsenal, Liverpool and United away as well!”

Merson has also predicted the score for Wolves vs Manchester United, and the former Arsenal player believes it will be a tough evening on Monday for the home side, with the Red Devils winning 3-0.

With the pundit not seeing where Wolves can win a game, that could mean they break a completely separate Derby County record from the infamous points tally.

Interestingly, former Wolves manager Dean Saunders still has hope for their Premier League status.

One win is the fewest ever in a Premier League season

While much of the focus on Derby’s 2007/2008 season was on their final points tally, the Rams did actually set another record that campaign.

Derby’s one win is the fewest a team has ever achieved across a Premier League season, and Derby actually had more points at this stage than Wolves now.

At present, you would not be surprised for Wolves to match or even get zero victories.

The Wanderers have played five of the current bottom seven in Premier League action already, and each of those ended in defeat.

The hope is that when Rob Edwards faces West Ham in the league, the result can be the same as the Carabao Cup tie back in August.
