Paul Merson predicts one thing could happen for the first time this season during Wolves vs Arsenal

Wolves head to the Emirates as massive underdogs, and Paul Merson’s prediction certainly paints that picture.

Rob Edwards will have it all to do to cause a shock result, and the Wolves head coach may have a way to give the Gunners problems.

For travelling supporters, they have already been given a headache. The latest transport update has left them in an unwanted situation.

They’ll be hoping their side can at least give them a performance to be proud of, and that is all Steve Bull is looking for until the end of the season.

Five players have played for both Wolves and Arsenal since the introduction of the Premier League.

Off the back of conceding four goals to Manchester United, the Old Gold certainly need some defensive confidence.

However, coming up against Arsenal may not be the best time to find it.

The Gunners are the second-highest scorers (28) in the Premier League, only behind Manchester City (35), and that spells bad news for the Wanderers.

Paul Merson has had his go at predicting this weekend’s scores, and as you can probably guess, he has gone for an Arsenal win, but he is expecting Wolves to get hammered.

Merson said (via Sportskeeda), “4-0 to Arsenal? 5-0? Honestly, it can be anything! I don’t know from where Wolves can find a win this season.”

He goes on to say, “When Arsenal get on top of teams, they really dominate, and I can see Wolves struggling in this game.”

The last time Wolves prevented Arsenal from scoring, ‘Heart of Glass’ by Blondie was the UK number 1, the Sony Walkman debuted that year, and punk fashion and disco glam were trendy.

What are your score predictions for Saturday evening?

STAT: The last time Wolves prevented Arsenal from scoring was back in February 1979. There have been 35 meetings since.

Although Wolves have struggled, they have yet to concede five in a single match. There have been three occasions; they have given up four goals.

If Arsenal score five, it would mark the first time this season that the Old Gold have shipped that many.

Arsenal put five past Wolves back in 2023

Mikel Arteta does have a history of dominating the Old Gold. In 11 matches as Arsenal manager, he has won on nine occasions.

The two wins for the Wanderers came in the 2020/2021 season, when they completed the Premier League double over the Gunners.

However, as the Spaniard built up his squad, it has become a difficult fixture for Wolves.

In 2023, the Old Gold were heavily defeated 5-0 at the Emirates, and that remains their heaviest loss against the London side since January 1937, when they also lost 5-0.

Hopefully Paul Merson’s prediction does not ring true this weekend, and the defence of Rob Edwards’ side shows some resilience.
