Paul Merson makes score prediction ahead of Wolves vs Brighton

Wolves are taking on Brighton at Molineux on Saturday in the Premier League.

Wanderers are looking to get back on track, having not won any of their last three matches.

Speculation continues to swirl about Julen Lopetegui, and it seems a move for him is now fairly close.

But it will be Steve Davis who takes the team once again this weekend, supported by James Collins and Tony Roberts.

The interim manager has overseen just the one victory so far, and would love to get some positive results from these final games before the World Cup.

Brighton are a good side, and are currently sitting in eighth place.

They enjoyed a brilliant result last time out, beating Chelsea 4-1 at the Amex Stadium.

It’s going to be a difficult game for Wolves, especially with Davis unable to call in Diego Costa, who picked up that red card against Brentford last weekend.

Paul Merson has given his predictions for the latest round of Premier League fixtures, and believes that the Seagulls will heap more misery on Wolves.

Predicting a 2-1 win for the away side, he said (Sportskeeda): “Which Brighton are going to turn up this weekend? They’re a bag of rebels – unbelievable on their day, but they can go four games without scoring a goal. If they play anywhere near how they did against Manchester City, they’ll win this game.

“Wolves have several issues to address at the moment. They let you play your football. Brighton played well at Liverpool at Man City, but my only worry is that they don’t play as well against the lesser teams. I’m going to go with a Brighton victory this weekend.”

Last season, Wolves beat Brighton 1-0 away from home thanks to a great goal by Romain Saiss.

But one of the biggest lows of the 2021/22 season was when Brighton turned Wolves over 3-0 at Molineux in April.

Brighton are something of an unknown quantity under Roberto De Zerbi, and Wolves can get something on Saturday

As Merson says, Brighton are bit like a bag of rebels at the moment,

De Zerbi has come in and their victory over Chelsea was admittedly very impressive.

But prior to that, the Seagulls had lost games against Manchester City, Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur. They also played out a goalless draw with Nottingham Forest, and impressively held Liverpool to a 3-3 draw at Anfield in De Zerbi’s first game.

So they have had some hard games under the Italian so far.

But Wolves need to just build on last weekend’s display against Brentford.

It was a positive showing in that second-half, and the team showed good character to come from behind.
