Paul Merson admits one thing has ‘completely’ shocked him about Wolves this season

Wolves are no doubt the underdogs heading into Sunday’s game against Brighton.

Chris Sutton has predicted Brighton to win, which will not come as a surprise to anyone, with the Old Gold yet to win this season.

Meanwhile, the Opta supercomputer has given Wolves just a small chance of winning, as they look to climb out of the relegation zone.

Performances seem to be on the up, as Vitor Pereira’s side were impressive against both Everton in the Carabao Cup and Tottenham in the Premier League last week.

However, Paul Merson is still not convinced, and his latest prediction proves it.

Paul Merson has given his verdict on the upcoming games this weekend, including for Wolves vs Brighton.

Merson said in his predictions, “I thought Wolves would be safe from relegation. But that loss against Leeds United was completely shocking for me.

“Last weekend, they got a good point against Tottenham. Wolves cannot be so up and down; they have to be more consistent if they want to stay in this division. After the international break, it’s a huge game coming up for Wolves against Sunderland.

“There’s already a 10-point gap between these two teams and it cannot get any bigger!

“All the newly promoted sides are competitive unlike last year and if Wolves fail to get four points from the next two games, they are in serious trouble. I don’t think they will get them points because I can’t see them beating Brighton here.”

The former Arsenal man has predicted a 2-1 win for Brighton at Molineux.

Wolves’ head-to-head vs Brighton is poor

Wolves’ record against Brighton is extremely poor.

Wolves have just two wins in their last 14 Premier League meetings against the Seagulls, and the last time they beat the South Coast side was under Bruno Lage.

Lage’s side won through a Romain Saiss goal in a 1-0 win.

Additionally, Brighton have won on their last four visits to Molineux, an ominous record ahead of Sunday’s game.

All signs point to defeat for Pereira, but if they can secure a win, it would be a major step forward for the club this season.

An injury to Kaoru Mitoma has given Wolves a boost ahead of Sunday, with the Japanese winger now a doubt for the fixture.
