Wolves’ eternal feud with the PGMOL rages on this week after yet another hard-to-digest verdict of wrongdoing.
In recent seasons, Wolves have been at the forefront of the anti-VAR movement.
The Old Gold have been scorned too many times by poor decisions, unjust intervention and general tomfoolery from Premier League referees.
And a fresh statement from the Key Match Incidents panel is sure to have Wolves fans up in arms again.
Panel agrees Hugo Bueno should have been awarded a penalty against Everton
If you’re an avid reader of Molineux News, you may remember the fan reaction we shared in the aftermath of the Everton loss.
Wolves supporters were raging that no penalty was given for Iliman Ndiaye’s trip on Hugo Bueno.
Bueno did what not many footballers these days will do in that situation: he attempted to play on rather than rolling around on the floor. And the lack of theatrics meant no on-field decision was given.

But the play was reviewed by VAR, and they made the mistake of not calling the foul.
As the BBC reports: “Three of the five members of the panel said VAR Craig Pawson’s decision not to intervene was a mistake.”
The panel released a statement, saying: “The contact made is careless and the panel felt a penalty should have been awarded and that VAR should have intervened on the basis it was a clear and obvious error in not penalising the foul.”
Wolves can’t seem to catch a break with VAR
As mentioned, Wolves and VAR don’t get along, but the proportion of errors made against the club doesn’t make sense.
The all-time VAR net table has Wolves at the very bottom, and by some distance.

It’s somewhat of a chicken-and-egg situation. Did Wolves want VAR gone because of all the errors, or did the errors get more frequent because Wolves have been so vocal in opposition.
Of course, the first option is the most likely one. But if these errors keep being made disproportionately against us, that conversation will have to be had.
That could have been Wolves’ first point of the season, after all.
