Pablo Sarabia breaks incredible Wolves record that has stood for over 13 years

Pablo Sarabia’s goal in Wolves’ 2-0 victory over Southampton broke an Old Gold record that has stood since February 2011.

Wolves fans finally got a bit of joy on Saturday afternoon. After going 10 Premier League games without witnessing a victory so far this season, Sarabia and Matheus Cunha both found the net in a 2-0 victory.

While the performance was far from ideal, it was a vital game for Gary O’Neil whose job was on the line.

Thankfully, nerves were quickly settled around Molineux after the Sarabia netted inside the first two minutes of the game.

As a result, the Spaniard broke a Wolves record thanks to his quick goal.

Just one minute and 48 seconds into the match, Cunha was able to slide the ball into Sarabia who touched it around Aaron Ramsdale before sliding it into the net.

It was a fantastic goal from Wolves and exactly the start they needed against fellow strugglers Southampton.

While the goal was vital given the circumstances, it also became Wolves’ quickest-ever Premier League goal.

With the club now into their 11th Premier League season of all time, the Old Gold have rarely netted an early goal.

Before the Southampton victory, Matt Jarvis previously held the record after he netted one minute and 56 seconds in during Wolves’ 4-0 victory over Blackpool in February 2011.

Wolves’ goalscoring issues are now a thing of the past

In recent seasons, the on-field issues with Wolves have now flipped.

Previously, the side consistently struggled to score goals after failing to replace Raul Jimenez for years. Thankfully, during this time, the Old Gold’s defence was magnificent.

Now, it is the opposite, with Wolves scoring for fun. So far this campaign, the Old Gold has found the net 16 times in the Premier League, two more than third-placed Nottingham Forest.

If O’Neil and Wolves want to get out of this mess they find themselves in, fixing their defensive woes should see them fly up the table given the squad’s goalscoring ability.
