Owen Hargreaves and Martin Keown rip into Wolves chairman Jeff Shi after ‘ridiculous’ remark

Earlier this week, Jeff Shi broke his silence amid unrest in the Wolves fanbase – and Owen Hargreaves and Martin Keown blasted the chairman on TNT Sports.

The week began with Wolves supporters protesting against Fosun before and during the game with Manchester United at Molineux.

A few days later, chairman Jeff Shi gave an interview with BBC Radio West Midlands to try and address concerns. Technical director Matt Jackson also appeared alongside Shi.

The interview was a car crash, with many stunned by the tone Shi struck amid such a concerning situation.

Shi appeared to play down the impending threat of relegation saying (via BBC Sport): “I feel relegation or staying up is a kind of technical word, just as I feel people try to emphasise its importance or not.

“Of course, it’s important because it will incur different revenue for one year.”

Last night, ahead of the game with Arsenal, pundits Owen Hargreaves and Martin Keown did not hold back on TNT Sports.

Shi sparked real anger with his interview this week.

The overriding feeling was that he does not grasp the severity of the situation, and seemingly doesn’t actually care.

Yesterday, ahead of Wolves facing Arsenal, TNT Sports flashed up the quote from Jeff calling relegation a ‘technical word’. And pundits Owen Hargreaves and Martin Keown didn’t hold back.

Hargreaves said on TNT Sports: “It’s a lot more than a technical word. It affects the whole city. It’s ridiculous. Sometimes people get in front of the mic and think they have to say something. But you need to say more than that. the way the club has been run the last few years is ridiculous. They’ve just been selling their best players and assets for years.

“You feel sorry for these fans.”

Keown added: “If you turn around and say it’s a technical term, relegation, no it’s not. It’s absolute devastation, for those players. They walk the street as proud men, that they’re Premier League players.

“You rip away that pride. It’s eight years in the Premier League now, and these fans, when they have to hear that, for me it’s completely out of touch with the city and the fans. It means everything to be a Premier League player and a Premier League club, and that’s going to be ripped away from them. It seems far too accepted by the owners, or the chairman there, in this situation, for me.”

Pressure will only increase on Fosun and Jeff Shi

The Shi interview was a remarkable display of delusion from the chairman.

It said it all that TNT devoted a pre-game segment to those comments, and it was good to hear Hargreaves and Keown giving their thoughts, which many will agree with.

Can the fans really force a Fosun sale?

Shi spoke about the long term, but fans will hope that the increasing pressure will ultimately see Fosun sell up.

For many, it has passed the point of no return now. It is unforgivable what Fosun have done and they can expect nothing but animosity for as long as they remain at the helm.

And hopefully knowing that, they will eventually see no other option but to sell.
