‘Outstanding’: Steve Davis says 22-year-old Wolves loanee has actually been making huge strides

Steve Davis has revealed that Yerson Mosquera’s loan move to FC Cincinnati has been going really well over the last few months.

Mosquera has been with the MLS club since January.

Wanderers moved to sign Craig Dawson, and this was the catalyst for the Colombian to finally head out on loan.

Wolves had wanted to send Mosquera out on loan ahead of the 2022/23 season. But their move for Dawson fell though at the time, and so Mosquera was kept by Wolves to proved cover.

He didn’t actually play any minutes.

But Mosquera was finally loaned out in January – and his time over in the States has been productive…

Msoquera has now spent a fair bit of time with Cincinnati.

And he has certainly caught the eye.

He’s made 30 appearances for the club, and scored a couple of goals and made a couple of assists.

He has been a regular pick for manager Pat Noonan, and Davis – who is the Pathways Manager at Wolves – is delighted with his progress

He said on Wolves Express: “He’s done really well. I went over a couple of weeks ago to watch him against Charlotte. It was great to see him, to speak to him, tell him what his plan is going forwards, what it might look like.

“It was good to see him live and how he fitted in. And socially as well. It’s important they go over there and embrace the area and the players around them.

“Even from the 45-minute conversation I had with him you can see how happy he is. He’s enjoyed being out there. I know they’ve got some Spanish boys out there.

“He’s been able to improve his English. I actually had a conversation, I could understand him! That was good. He’s always smiling, he’s a superb character. He’s only 22, but you can see that he’s growing up being out there and making new friends and things. It’s giving him the opportunity to really establish himself.

“He has been one of the outstanding defenders in the MLS.”

Very encouraging comments from Davis on Mosquera

It is brilliant to hear from Davis that Mosquera is thriving out in the States.

It was an interesting decision to send him there, but it sounds like the move is doing him the world of good.

Maybe there were leagues of a higher standard he could have gone to.

But Mosquera spent a lot of time out injured and he needed to just get out and play.

He’s playing regularly and impressing often. So much so that he actually made his debut for Colombia during the international break.

And it’s also good to hear that Mosquera’s English has improved, as that will help him a lot moving forrwards.

It would be fantastic to see him one day make a Toti Gomes-esque journey to the Wolves first-team.
