Opta supercomputer delivers surprising Wolves vs Man United verdict

The Opta supercomputer has delivered a fairly surprising verdict for when Wolves play Manchester United on Monday.

Rob Edwards’ side are certainly the underdogs, and Paul Merson believes they will lose heavily against Manchester United.

The Wanderers will be much weaker, as Joao Gomes’ suspension has ruled him out. However, fans believe that could be a good thing.

And despite the Old Gold’s form, the supercomputer has delivered a mixed verdict on whether they can get any points.

Wolves given a 50% chance of getting a result vs Man United

The Opta supercomputer has run its calculations, and the results may be surprising to a few.

With the Red Devils sitting just two points off the top four before the matchweek begins, on paper they are the more likely winners.

However, the data powerhouse is not quite as confident of that outcome as you would think.

Despite the two contrasting positions, Wolves are in with a shout of getting a result on Monday night if the analytical computer is to be believed.

It has given Manchester United a 50.4% chance of a win, which means Wolves have been given a 49.6% chance of at least getting a result.

Rounded up, it is essentially a toss-up between Rob Edwards’ side losing and coming out with a minimum of a point.

The breakdown of that percentage for Wolves is a 26% chance of three points and a 23.4% probability of a draw.

With Man United vying for European places, one point against them would typically be a good return. However, with the Old Gold 12 points adrift from safety, every match in the upcoming weeks has become a must-win.

Defeat on Monday night would match a Wolves club record, and Rob Edwards will desperately want to avoid that.

Manchester United history points to Wolves loss

If history is anything to look back on, the odds of Wolves getting a win are even slimmer.

The Red Devils lost in this fixture 2-0 last time around, but losing again would set a new precedent.

Wolves did the double over Manchester United last season! Hwang, Cunha, and Sarabia scored across the games, but only one is still at Wolves.

Amid their goalscoring woes, can Wolves find an answer for Monday?

That is because Manchester United haven’t lost consecutive league visits against Wolves at Molineux since August 1980.

However, as time after time has shown this season, the form the Wanderers are in, with new records being set, has been a constant theme, and for all the wrong reasons.
