O’Neil shares what Matheus Cunha did on Friday after Man United defeat

Gary O’Neil revealed after the win over Chelsea that Matheus Cunha came to see him to talk tactics, after the defeat to Manchester United.

Cunha was the hero on Sunday, hitting a hat-trick for Wolves at Stamford Bridge to inspire a first win there since 1979.

It was a brilliant performance from Wolves, and especially good given the bitterly disappointing result in midweek against Manchester United, when Kobbie Mainoo scored deep into injury-time.

Cunha’s performance was one of the best from a Wolves player this season in any game, and the Brazilian is just oozing confidence at the moment.

It has been very clear that he loves playing under Gary O’Neil and the pair seem to have a fantastic relationship – and after yesterday’s win, O’Neil revealed that Cunha sought him out after the defeat to United…

The defeat to Manchester United on Wednesday was a really tough one to take.

Wolves battled so hard to get it back to 3-3, having not played particularly well in the game.

It looked as though Wolves would nick a point against the Red Devils, but Mainoo popped up to score a brilliant goal right at the end to deal a crushing blow to the Wolves players.

The Wolves players were back in training the following day, and O’Neil said that Cunha actually sought him out the morning after losing to United at the death.

He said (Express & Star): “He came and saw me on Friday morning fairly early after the Manchester United game to have a chat about a few things around the game, his game and where the team was because he’s a great guy. He wants to improve and wants to understand.”

Cunha gets his rewards

It’s really interesting to hear from O’Neil that Cunha went and saw him to talk about that game with United.

It’s clear that he’s someone who cares a lot, and he wants to learn and understand. Previously, O’Neil has said that he often has ‘fascinating conversations’ with Cunha regarding his position and team tactics.

The 24-year-old has always shown a tremendous work ethic since he arrived at the club, and it is little things like this that set him apart.

His desire to get better is extremely refreshing and obviously a brilliant thing for Wolves, and seemingly this Friday chat with O’Neil helped to prepare him to play against Chelsea, against whom he then scored a hat-trick.

The relationship he’s got with O’Neil seems really strong and together, they could really achieve fantastic things for this football club.
