One Wolves player’s future looks so bleak after Vitor Pereira shares new development

Wolves fell to another defeat in the Premier League on Saturday against Arsenal – and Vitor Pereira’s matchday squad was rather telling.

Wolves were beaten 1-0 at Molineux, with Riccardo Calafiori scoring the only goal of the game.

It came after Wolves could not capitalise following a red card for Myles Lewis-Skelly in the first-half. Lewis-Skelly brought down Matt Doherty, and referee Michael Oliver dismissed him with the decision being upheld by VAR.

But Wolves couldn’t make their advantage pay and then in the second-half, Joao Gomes was also sent off. Pundit Danny Murphy branded Gomes’ challenge on Jurrien Timber ‘ridiculous’, and it was certainly a foolish play from the Brazilian.

It was another frustrating day for Wolves fans, and there is one player in the squad who will have been sharing those feelings – but perhaps more so over his own situation right now.

It’s always interesting to see who doesn’t make the matchday squad.

Against Arsenal, there was no sign of Carlos Forbs for Wolves in the matchday squad for the first time this season.

After the game, Pereira said that Forbs missed the clash due to an injury. He said: “He’s got an injury, in the knee or ankle.

“No (it’s not serious), it’s something from the past and he was not available for the game.”

The Wolves manager stopped short of offering a timeline for his return, but the development isn’t good for Forbs whose long-term future is already in doubt.

Why Forbs making permanent Wolves transfer is unlikely

So Forbs missed out yesterday due to an injury, which could further diminish his chances of getting minutes. It may not be serious, but Forbs cannot afford any kind of injury at the moment.

Forbs didn’t play much under Gary O’Neil and his situation has not changed since Pereira came in which does cast doubt over his long-term future at the club.

It was recently reported that Forbs must make considerably more appearances than Jorgen Strand Larsen to turn his Wolves move permanent.

Strand Larsen is said to have passed the required number of appearances for Wolves to pay Celta Vigo a transfer fee. He’s made 25 appearances, with Forbs having made just 10.

Appearances – 10
Minutes played – 259
Goals – 0
Assists – 0

It’s been a very disappointing spell considering the excitement when he joined.

Forbs is the fastest forward in the Premier League, but aside from his pace, we haven’t really seen anything from him in the final third.

Pereira has yet to comment specifically on why Forbs hasn’t been playing much in general at Wolves. But Lee Naylor said recently that Forbs is sloppy on the ball, which could be a reason for his lack of minutes.

Realistically, it’s highly unlikely he’ll be at Wolves next season unless there’s a dramatic change in his situation.
