One winner and three losers from Wolves’ defeat to Nottingham Forest including Joao Gomes

There were not many winners from Wolves’ 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, but there may have been one.

Rob Edwards was left concerned with his side’s performance, and the Wolves head coach questioned their mentality at half-time, accusing them of being scared.

And in truth, he was not wrong.

There was a real lack of conviction from his team, and that would have come as a shock to him after such a promising display against Aston Villa.

The defeat has left Wolves fans in no doubt about how this season will end, with survival continuing to move further away.

There were certainly more negatives than positives from Wednesday night, and that is reflected in our winners and losers from the match.

After yet another defeat, who was the most disappointing Wolves performer vs Nottingham Forest?

Emmanuel Agbadou the only winner as Ivorian continues to look back to his best

There were not many positives to take from Wolves’ loss, but the defensive unit does continue to look better than it did under Vitor Pereira.

One man who has seemingly had a resurgence is Emmanuel Agbadou, and that is great news for Rob Edwards.

The Ivorian looks to be returning to his old self, the dominant centre-back that was seen last season.

There were times this season where you would not be shocked to see Agbadou dropped, but right now, the idea of that is senseless.

The defender has performed well in all three of Edwards’ matches in charge, and long may it continue. The Old Gold certainly need it too.

Losers from Wolves’ defeat to Nottingham Forest

Jhon Arias

Jhon Arias’ struggles continue on. The Colombian has not reached the levels that were expected of him, and perhaps the early tag of being the ‘Cunha replacement’ has had a negative impact on him.

So far, he has been far and away from being that, and you could make a case that he has had little to no impact at all.

Shay Given believes Arias missed an easy chance against Nottingham Forest and that it was more difficult to miss.

And that perfectly sums up the summer signing’s time at Molineux so far. There is a quality player there, and you cannot fault his effort; however, nothing is falling right for him at the minute.

This performance will just be another reason why fans are growing impatient with Jhon Arias.

Joao Gomes

While it was not a terrible performance from Joao Gomes, the picking up of a yellow card was one of the bigger disappointments of the night.

The Brazilian is now suspended when Wolves host Manchester United on Monday night, as this was his fifth of the Premier League season before matchweek 19.

Do Wolves stand any chance at all against United without Gomes?

It is a major blow for Rob Edwards, as Joao Gomes is one of just a handful of players who can offer real quality.

The number eight getting booked has been an all too familiar issue during his time at Molineux, and now his team will be much weaker for the next match.

Sam Johnstone

Sam Johnstone found his way back into the Wolves side after a string of errors from Jose Sa, but the Englishman must now be careful he does not drop in the pecking order for the very same reason.

The goalkeeper’s performances have been better than those of the Portuguese this season. However, against Nottingham Forest he did make a crucial mistake for the goal.

His onrushing charge to try and claim the ball from a cross left an open goal for Igor Jesus to head into.

If the 32-year-old had stayed on his line, it would have been a routine save for him. Instead, Johnstone has been awarded with an error leading to a goal.

He must now avoid making too many more of those, or else he could have the same fate as Jose Sa.
