Nuno Espirito Santo signing confirms his retirement away from Wolves

The Nuno Espirito Santo reign seems to be a distant memory now, but what a time that was for Wolves supporters.

At the start of December in 2019, Wolves fans were living it up with their club fifth in the Premier League and in the middle of a ten-game unbeaten streak.

Rui Pedro Silva played a big part during that period under Nuno Espirito Santo, and he’s made his return to Wolves under Rob Edwards now.

Nuno Espirito Santo is the one manager that Conor Coady never wanted to leave Wolves, and no one can blame him after leading the club to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

One player who played a big part during that period was Rui Patricio, who went on to make over 100 appearances for the Old Gold.

He played an imperative part in Wolves’ Europa League campaign, as well as keeping his most clean sheets in the Premier League in a season in 2019-20, with 13 clean sheets.

Patricio currently holds the record for the most clean sheets by a Wolves goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Wolves’ current goalkeeping issues make things even worse

The current goalkeeping situation at Wolves sees Sam Johnstone as the number one, but even he has been prone to a mistake or two this season.

However, his place was handed to him due to the sheer amount of errors that Jose Sa made in the opening weeks of the Premier League campaign.

Gone are the days when you can just rely on a goalkeeper like Rui Patricio to deliver for you in every game of the season without fail.

It’s been symptomatic of Wolves’ season, with mistakes made in almost every position.
