‘Now he’s available’ – Vitor Pereira provides injury update on Wolves duo ahead of Blackburn clash

Wolves visit Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Wolves beat Bristol City in the third round to book their place at Ewood Park and Vitor Pereira will expect his side to overcome their second-tier opponents.

On Saturday, Wolves celebrated a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League and shortly after, handed Matheus Cunha a new contract.

The Wanderers have since added two new players to their squad in the shape of Nasser Djiga and Marshall Munetsi.

Pereira wasn’t sure whether Wolves’ new signings would make their debuts, although the Portuguese tactician was certain about something else.

Vitor Pereira shares Jorgen Strand Larsen and Boubacar Traore injury updates

Speaking in his pre-match conference on Friday, the 56-year-old shared an update on Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Strand Larsen suffered a hamstring injury against Arsenal and was expected to be out for a couple of weeks but Pereira’s latest comments suggest he could return sooner despite not being available this weekend.

“He’s working very well,” Pereira said via the E&S. “Today I saw him on the pitch and we’ll see. I don’t want to put pressure on the medical department, but they are doing very good work with him.

“I hope he comes back as soon as possible.”

The Wolves manager also shared an update on midfielder Boubacar Traore who returned to training last month after a long time on the sidelines, missing the win over Aston Villa with flu.

“Now he’s available but in the last training he was not completely healthy,” Pereira said of Traore. “Maybe tomorrow he’ll be back without problems.”

Pereira expected to ring the changes vs Blackburn

Once Strand Larsen is fully fit and Traore slots into the squad, Pereira will have a competitive squad to choose from, seeing multiple options now available to him.

The additions of Djiga and Munetsi have only added to their depth, which was a huge concern for Gary O’Neil previously, with hopes now firmly on survival.

An FA Cup clash this weekend, however, perhaps allows the manager to rotate his side. Chris Sutton thinks Pereira will make many changes and predicts Blackburn to pull off a shock win against Wolves.

With Premier League survival the ultimate aim, there’s less pressure to advance deep into the FA Cup. That being said, staying in the competition is a blessing, as it enables Pereira to use some of his fringe players.

For instance, Pedro Lima deserves to start against Blackburn, as does Rodrigo Gomes, who has looked a completely different player under the Portuguese.

Whatever alterations he decides to make to the lineup, hopefully, Pereira stumbles across the winning formula, as Wolves target a place in round five.
