Neymar Jr made history over the weekend, as he became Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer – and Wolves star Matheus Cunha enjoyed an amusing interaction with his teammate after the game.
Brazil defeated Bolivia 5-1 in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday, with Neymar bagging a double.
Neymar had gone into the game level with the great Pele on 77 goals.
After missing a penalty, Neymar made history by scoring his 78th.
Not content with one goal, he then added another right at the death to take his tally to 79.
It is an amazing achievement by the 31-year-old considering some of the players that have worn the shirt – and shortly after the game, he had a funny interaction with Wolves’ Cunha.
Matheus Cunha’s mother grabs picture with Neymar after superstar makes history
As a reward for his good start to the new season with Wolves, Cunha is now back in the Brazil squad.
It is the first time he has been a part of the squad since September 22.
He started from the bench against Bolivia on Saturday, but was given the last 20 minutes by manager Fernando Diniz.
He could not get on the scoresheet. And it was a pretty uneventful cameo for Cunha, who only had nine touches of the ball and completed six passes out of seven attempted (Sofascore). But it was still nice to see Cunha get back on there in the famous yellow jersey.
After the game, he marked the occasion with an Instagram post.
Cunha’s mother was in attendance for the match. And one of the pictures Cunha has uploaded is of her and history-maker Neymar.
He has captioned the post: “Belém, how amazing it is here. Thank you for living the national team with the same pride as we represent you. A new cycle begins! Boring.
“And on the day that Ney becomes the top scorer of the national team, Ms. @luzicunha makes me feel ashamed asking to take a photo with her idol. Nice to experience a brand like that. Genius @neymarjr.”
Neymar replied to the post with a couple of laughing emojis, joking ‘we are together’.
