‘Next year’s captain’ – Wolves fans want ‘top drawer’ star who is ‘miles better’ than player who left in summer to take armband

Wolves may not have had the season they’d hoped for, but credit must go to their recent recruitment.

Wolves’ spending in January made them England’s second-highest club, just one spot behind defending champions Manchester City.

However, one player in particular has allowed Wolves’ recruitment team, including sporting director Matt Hobbs, to justify the team’s expenditure.

Fans think Vitor Pereira should make ‘top drawer’ Emmanuel Agbadou Wolves captain

Emmanuel Agbadou joined Wolves in January from Ligue 1 side Stade Reims. The Ivory Coast international hit the ground running and has since gone from strength to strength.

As a result of Agbadou’s form, which sees him one of the first names on Vitor Pereira’s teamsheet, fans not only believe he’s better than former skipper Max Kilman, but they want him named the side’s captain next season.

Another X user said: “He’s absolutely miles better than Kilman. Walks into most teams in the league outside of the big 6, potentially into some of those also.”

A fourth fan agreed Agbadou is better at the back than Kilman.

“Definitely an upgrade,” X user @PeterPecker11 added.

“He is about 1002002000292900404040x the player Kilman is- MK [Max Kilman] runs like he is running through treacle- and his positional play is woeful,” @Woodthewolf83 said.

Decision to sell Kilman proving a good one

Kilman’s £40 million move to West Ham last summer raised eyebrows at the time. He wasn’t just the side’s captain, but he had been in the Midlands for six years.

Moving to London signalled the end of a long spell at Molineux but Wolves’ decision to part ways seems to have worked out for the best.

Agbadou’s presence at the heart of Pereira’s back three has improved the team’s defensive ability. The African has formed a solid partnership with Matt Doherty and especially Toti Gomes.

The former Stade Reims centre-back continues to be one of the Old Gold’s smartest signings in years.
