Next Wolves manager urged to mimic one thing Vitor Pereira did well when he first arrived

For Dave Edwards, there is one non-negotiable for the next Wolves manager.

Wanderers are searching for a new head coach, after sacking Vitor Pereira on Sunday following the defeat to Fulham the day before.

Pereira was finally relieved of his duties, with that decision being made just after the full-time whistle at Craven Cottage, before being communicated to Pereira the following morning.

Wolves are now looking for his successor, and lots of names have been mentioned already.

It is thought that, at the moment, Rob Edwards is the top target for Wolves.

He is now the man they want, after Gary O’Neil dramatically walked away from the opportunity due to fan backlash and ultimately failing to agree working conditions.

Wolves fans are patiently waiting for who will be next to work under Jeff Shi and Fosun, but for Dave Edwards, there is one thing above all else that the next manager must do.

The mood around Wolves is extremely bad.

Fans are absolutely fed up with what they have seen in recent months, and of course, the owners are being targeted at every opportunity.

In many ways, the job is a poisoned chalice.

But someone is going to take it, and Edwards reckons the most vital thing will be for the new manager to get the players onside immediately – just like Pereira did.

He said: “The club can’t do anything until the January transfer window, so Wolves’ new head coach needs to get the players to trust them and get them onside.

“Pereira did that well early on last year.”

Edwards went on to offer a reason for optimism for Wolves fans – and that is the fact that the club have been in this position twice before.

In October 2022, Bruno Lage was sacked by Wolves and a few weeks later, Julen Lopetegui arrived and went on to keep Wolves up.

Then, of course last year in December, Wolves parted ways with Gary O’Neil, with Pereira coming in as his replacement. Wolves again stayed up.

Edwards makes a good point, however, Wolves’ squad was arguably packed with much more quality when Lopetegui and Pereira first came in.

In the summer, the club lost so many good players and many now feel that this is one of the worst squads Wolves have had since being back in the Premier League. Certainly, the Premier League table doesn’t lie and surely reflects that.
