Vitor Pereira’s future looks to be at Wolves for the long term after signing a new three-year deal, and fans were left questioning the decision.
For fans, the timing of Pereira’s deal was completely wrong, with the club languishing in last place and on zero points.
These opinions were further compounded when they fell to another defeat to Leeds United on Saturday.

That was not the only questionable thing to have happened at Wolves, as fans were confused about something Vitor Pereira said after the defeat to Leeds.
The mood around Molineux is at an all-time low, at least in recent history, but one journalist who had a heavy Wolves involvement over the summer believes Vitor Pereira can steady the ship.
Craig Hope believes Vitor Pereira is the right man for Wolves
Newcastle journalist Craig Hope had quite a few Wolves fans tune into his work this summer as the uncertainty around Jorgen Strand Larsen’s future rumbled on.
In the end Strand Larsen remained at the Old Gold, signing a new contract.
However, speaking on Sky Sports’ Sunday Supplement podcast, the journalist delivered his thoughts on Vitor Pereira after seeing them live against Newcastle last weekend.

Hope said, “I actually think he is the right man. I haven’t got a problem with Vitor Pereira at all. I think he is believable. I think he showed enough last season.
“He lost in the summer, he lost Cunha, he lost Ait Nouri, and he started the season to a large extent without his best player, Jorgen Strand Larsen. I think they do have good players.
I saw them play Newcastle and they were good for the first 15-20 minutes; they were fantastic. They could have been one or two up. Once that didn’t happen, it was almost like the confidence drained from them. I spoke to people close to Wolves, and they said it is a confidence thing.”
Wolves’ history shows turnaround is possible
In the last four Premier League seasons, Wolves have been in the bottom five after the opening five matches, yet have avoided the drop.
Wolves are perennial slow starters, and that has been their history over the years. However, the mood at Molineux this season does not hold any positivity, even if outside voices do.
The history could at least provide some solace for now, but as things continue, the mood will only get worse.
The Old Gold face an enormous task to stave off relegation, and out of the five teams who have lost all of their opening five fixtures, three of them have been relegated.
Teams | Final position |
Southampton 1998-99 | 17th |
Sunderland 2005-06 | 20th |
Portsmouth 2009-10 | 20th |
Crystal Palace 2017-18 | 11th |
Norwich 2021-22 | 20th |
The signs are not looking good for the club, but Vitor Pereira’s confidence can be something that can rally his players.
Next up is Everton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening at 7:45pm BST.
