Gary O’Neil’s successor Vitor Pereira is preparing for his first game in charge at Wolves.
Signing from Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab, Pereira arrived at Molineux to coach an English club for the first time in his career.
While Pereira has faced several current Premier League managers, the 56-year-old has yet to venture into English football – until now.
Wolves’ search for a new manager is over as the Portuguese took the reins from O’Neil after 16 months in charge.

Vitor Pereira sends message to Wolves fans
It’s been a trialling road to get to the appointment, with the Old Gold having won just three games in the Premier League in seven months.
Sitting down in the relegation zone, Wolves fans lost all trust in O’Neil, making it clear that they wanted the Englishman out of the job.
Now, Pereira takes over having left Al-Shabab via a release clause, ready to take charge of the squad’s trip to Leicester City.
After tending to media duties prior to the clash against Leicester, Pereira addressed Wolves fans and shared his first words as club manager on Instagram.
“Honoured to join the Wolves family and embrace the challenge of competing in the world’s best league! I promise hard work and dedication to reignite the fire within the pack. The journey begins today! Step by step, we strive to reach our goals together! Let’s go Wanderers!”
The coach is certainly ready to embark on a challenging journey through the remainder of 2024/25 with Wolves, with there hope that he will get sufficient support from above.

Where did Pereira manage before Wolves?
Pereira left Al-Shabab to join Wolves, leaving behind the familiar face of Daniel Podence in the Middle East.
Before coaching in Saudi Arabia, Pereira was in Brazil, overseeing Joao Gomes’ Flamengo and Corinthians before that.
Club | Stay |
Al-Shabab | 2024 |
Flamengo | 2023 |
Corinthians | 2022 |
SH SIPG | 2021 |
1860 Munich | 2017-2020 |

Despite also managing in China, Germany and Turkey, Pereira found the most joy in Portugal, where he won two league titles with Porto.
At that time, Pereira faced Pep Guardiola in the 2011 UEFA Super Cup, with the Manchester City boss being one of several current Premier League managers he’s faced.
Only time will tell how the 56-year-old fares in England, in what is set to be a challenging first season at Molineux for the Portuguese.
