Ruben Neves has hailed Wolves full-backs Nelson Semedo and Rayan Ait-Nouri, after the pair starred against Crystal Palace on Friday night.

The duo were absolutely key for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side during the 2-0 win at Molineux, offering themselves as constant outlets out wide.

Ait-Nouri was making his Wolves debut following his summer loan from Angers, but the talented teenager played like he’s been in the Premier League for years already.

It was a highly promising performance from the youngster, who also scored in the game.

On the opposite flank, Semedo, 26, was also fantastic, providing support in attack but also putting in a solid defensive performance – a side of his game that has been criticised in the past.

Speaking to the club’s official website, £16 million man Neves (BBC Sport) was full of praise for the two players: “It was amazing. We saw Nelson coming again to his best, with a lot of confidence on the ball, and he’s a fantastic player, and today, he already showed what he can give us, what he is and how he can help us in the future.

“Rayan is a fantastic player as well with a lot of talent. We try to help him a lot because it was his debut, but we are really proud of him because he had a great game, with a goal as well which will help us a lot, so we’re really happy for him, and hope he keeps working like this because he’s a great player.”

A sign of the future?

It was a simply brilliant performance from both players, the kind that showcased just how effective the 3-4-3/5-3-2 formation can be.

Nuno Espirito Santo had been experimenting with Romain Saiss at left wing-back, but the manager surely cannot go back to that now.

Ait-Nouri, will of course have games where he gets found out, but his attacking talent is undeniable and he and Semedo definitely seem like they could become the nailed on starters in those wing-back positions.
