‘Never had it…’ What Wolves fans are all saying about Goncalo Guedes after ‘disappointing’ update

Wolves fans have reacted to Vitor Pereira’s explanation about why Goncalo Guedes has not been in the matchday squad.

Guedes has not been named in Pereira’s previous two Premier League matchday squads, missing out against Tottenham and, most recently, Manchester United. 

After the Old Gold’s win against Man United, Pereira called out Guedes for not showing the expected level of desire or hard work to make the Wolves squad. 

Guedes has made 24 appearances in the Premier League this season, making his sudden omission all the more surprising. 

Vitor Pereira’s update on Goncalo Guedes angered Wolves fans

It’s been a difficult time for Guedes at Wolves, as the forward has only made 46 appearances for the club he signed for in 2022.

Due to a series of loan spells and injuries, the 28-year-old has failed to secure consistent game time in the West Midlands, with Pereira now making his decision to axe the winger public.

After Pereira’s explanation, fans reacted to the news on social media, as Wolves supporters appeared to share the same opinion on Guedes. 

“He’s never had it in him. Massive disappointment,” one supporter said on X, which was agreed with by many others. 

“Time to move him on, no space for anyone not committed,” another said, as the comments came flooding in. 

“He’s wanted out for about a year.. get rid..” and, “He’s never wanted to be here, think he’s done enough this season to get a few offers and he’ll be off in the summer.” 

Guedes showed impressive form earlier in the season, which prompted some fans to restore their belief in the player, a decision that some made too hastily. 

“What makes this even more disappointing is that the fans backed Guedes this season,” a fan said before warning the club not to make the same mistake.

“Wolves must learn their lesson and stop bringing players to the club who do not want to come here. We’ve blown massive massive money on too many of these now.” 

Others took the time to praise Pereira’s no-nonsense approach when it came to cutting out those who don’t want to be a part of the club. 

“Absolutely love his no nonsense attitude. Sort your attitude out or you don’t play. Love it.”

Another supporter agreed, “Long overdue, about time someone had a word with him. I don’t think he’s looked bothered since he’s put on a Wolves shirt.”

“Off you pop son”, a fan said, as many agreed that the lack of effort should mark the end of Guedes’ time at Molineux.

Guedes’ turbulent time at Wolves 

It now looks as though a permanent transfer for Guedes could be on the cards this summer, even more so when looking back on his time at Wolves.

Remarkably, the 2024/25 campaign marks the first time that the Portuguese forward has spent an entire season at Molineux.

Guedes only lasted six months during his first season at Wolves before going on loan to Benfica, where he spent another half-campaign before then jetting off to Villarreal. 

It’s been non-stop movement for Guedes since he touched down in England, and now, the 28-year-old’s next flight could hold no return.
