Nervous times for Wolves fans as bold new Joao Gomes to Man United claim made

There has been speculation about Joao Gomes’ future in recent weeks, and a big claim from Brazil yesterday is bound to worry supporters.

Wolves fell to yet another defeat in the Premier League on Saturday, with Rob Edwards losing his first game as manager to Crystal Palace.

Wolves lost 2-0 at Molineux, with both Palace goals coming in the second-half.

How much is Joao Gomes worth in today’s market?

It was another hugely disappointing display from Wanderers, who did not capitalise on Palace not really being in the game for the first hour.

It was another frustrating afternoon for Joao Gomes, who was one of Wolves’ better players, but didn’t have the quality around him.

Not long after yesterday’s game started, a report emerged from Brazil regarding Gomes and the reported interest from Manchester United – and it is surely to worry Wanderers fans.

Wolves fans are starting to come to terms with the notion of Gomes not being at the club much longer.

Ultimately, the club are in a terrible position right now, and even if by some miracle the team stays in the Premier League come the end of the season, there is a chance more top players will leave.

Joao Gomes certainly falls into the category of best players at Wolves.

It has been suggested previously that Wolves have promised Rob Edwards that Gomes won’t be sold in January.

But now, a bold claim has emerged from Brazilian publication Trivela, which says that talks between Wolves and United have ramped up in recent days.

They even say that there is now an ‘expectation’ that Gomes will join United in January, and that the deal could be worth around £44 million.

Wolves would be waving the white flag by selling Joao Gomes in January

This is a bold claim from Trivela, considering Rob Edwards played down talk of Gomes leaving in January ahead of the game with Crystal Palace.

Wolves officials know there would be uproar if Gomes was sold in January.

But the further away from safety Wolves are in January, the more likely it becomes that Gomes leaves.

Rob Edwards addresses Joao Gomes transfer rumours

“We’ve spoken about stuff but my focus has been on getting the team organised. We have got some good players and there will always be interest, but I’m not aware of anything. Joao has been excellent this week.”

Journalist Liam Keen reported earlier this week that Wolves’ approach to January could well be dictated by their league position.

So if the club are cut adrift, we may well see Wolves looking to prepare for life in the Championship.

And Gomes would almost certainly not be part of that life.
