Nathan Collins gives classy response after some Wolves fans booed him on his return to Molineux

Wolves edged Brentford 3-2 last night in the FA Cup third round replay at Molineux – and after the game, Nathan Collins gave his reaction after getting boos from some Wanderers fans.

It was Collins who opened the scoring last night, bundling the ball in from six yards after Neal Maupay’s shot was blocked.

Nelson Semedo grabbed an equaliser for the hosts, but Maupay then restored the visitors’ lead in the second-half.

Gary O’Neil turned to Nathan Fraser to try and get Wolves back into the contest once again, and the youngster delivered to the delight of his manager just minutes after coming on, scoring with a fine finish.

The game went to extra-time and the superb Matheus Cunha would be the match-winner, scoring from the penalty spot after a foul on Pedro Neto.

Last night saw Nathan Collins once again line up to face his old club.

The Republic of Ireland international has played in all three games against Wolves this season, and some supporters have given him some stick.

Last night was the first time Collins has been back at Molineux since his £23 million move to the Bees, and so the jeers were more audible.

Collins was asked about the reception he got last night, but the defender actually gave a fairly classy response, telling Brentford’s media team: “Listen I enjoyed my time here. I enjoyed a lot of the lads and the staff. Obviously the fans gave me a bit of stick but it’s part of the game, isn’t it?

“I enjoyed the game. I felt better in myself, I felt the lads played a lot better. We looked how we usually do so that was nice and I’ve seen nice people as well so it’s good to come back.”

Fair play to Collins

Maybe it was inevitable that some would boo Collins last night, given the way some football fans think and the tribalistic nature of the game.

Collins didn’t particularly deserve them though, as he left the club in a respectful way – this, after never wanting to go in the first place.

Fair play to him for this classy response, he is clearly a level-headed person.

He did not have the best year at Wolves but hopefully it all works out for him at Brentford.
