Nasser Djiga breaks silence after joining Rangers on loan from Wolves with ‘best team’ admission

Wolves defender Nasser Djiga has become the latest player to exit the club on loan after Tommy Doyle.

It was revealed last week that Rangers were interested in loaning Djiga, who only made six senior appearances for Wolves after joining from Red Star Belgrade in February.

On Monday, Djiga’s loan move to Rangers was agreed, and the 22-year-old has since been officially unveiled as their new signing.

The Burkina Faso international will join up with Russell Martin’s squad as they prepare for the first leg of their Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos on July 22.

As someone who has experienced the competition previously at Red Star, Djiga is undoubtedly excited about the challenge.

Nasser Djiga’s first words after joining Rangers from Wolves

With Emmanuel Agbadou, Santiago Bueno, Yerson Mosquera, Toti Gomes and Matt Doherty all capable of playing in the back three, Djiga returned to pre-season knowing he was fifth or sixth choice.

That is why the decision has been made to send the youngster on loan, and when asked about how he feels about a switch to the Scottish giants, he claimed it was the ‘best team’ for him.

“I am very happy to join Rangers, it is one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and in Europe,” Djiga told the Rangers official website. “I will try to give everything, to play every game and I think it is the best team for me. I just want to play and enjoy football with the team.”

The chance to excel domestically and on the European stage for one of the most decorated football clubs is an opportunity he couldn’t refuse.

Though he will feel a sense of excitement ahead of the challenge, Wolves must ensure Djiga plays regularly; otherwise, a temporary switch to Scotland will be pointless.

What Russell Martin said after Djiga joined Rangers

Martin is assembling a squad at Rangers that he hopes can overhaul the dominant force in Scottish football, overtaking Celtic at the top.

The Gers have signed players such as Thelo Aasgaard from Luton Town and Max Aarons on loan from Bournemouth so far, with Djiga the latest to join the project.

So, after seeing his loan move get confirmed, the former Southampton boss is excited about what Djiga can bring to his defence after watching him excel in the Champions League and feature in the Premier League.

“Nasser is someone who, despite still only being 22, has garnered valuable experience in both the UEFA Champions League and Premier League,” Martin said.

“We believe he has all the attributes required to thrive here at Rangers in the upcoming campaign and I am looking forward to working with him.”
