‘Must play’: Wolves fans asking Vitor Pereira to name ‘underused’ star against Everton and give Rayan Ait-Nouri new role

Wolves are preparing to welcome Everton to the Midlands for their next Premier League matchup. The Old Gold are looking to end their recent run of defeats with a win over the Toffees.

Vitor Pereira’s side come into Saturday night’s game at Molineux following of back-to-back defeats. David Moyes’ Everton, in contrast, are in great form and, despite their bottom half league position, will be one of Wolves’ toughest challenges yet.

Although Matheus Cunha is suspended following his straight red card against Bournemouth, the Old Gold have received some good news in time for this weekend’s matchup.

Wolves fans want immediate Rodrigo Gomes return

Rodrigo Gomes hasn’t featured since Wolves’ FA Cup game against Blackburn last month.

The 21-year-old wide-man has been struggling with an injury to his pelvis, but, as Molineux News exclusively reported, Gomes returned to training this week and is in contention to feature against Everton.

And reacting to the news that Gomes is back, some Wolves fans online have been calling for Pereira to immediately include the young Portuguese star in his matchday squad.

Another fan took to X, formerly Twitter, and shared his relief at Gomes returning to fitness. “Some good news at last! If fit must play for me,” the fan said.

A third supporter compared Gomes to former midfielder Ruben Neves. “Most devoted player since Neves never complains, always got his head down, always wants to be on the pitch, looks so happy all the time. Gary [O’Neil] should be put on a hitlist for not playing him,” they said.

Although Gomes has featured in 17 Premier League matches already this season, there are some suggestions he’s deserved more minutes.

“He’s been massively underused this season. Which is crazy considering he was probably our best player throughout preseason,” one fan said.

With 11 games left between now and the end of the season, Gomes, who will feel offers a lot going forward, will be expecting Wolves to call upon him more as the side look to widen the gap between themselves and Leicester City and Ipswich Town.

Vitor Pereira urged to play Rayan Ait-Nouri in new role

Rayan Ait-Nouri is the side’s only natural left wing-back, and, as a result, has played in nearly every match he’s been fit for this season.

There are fitness concerns over Ait-Nouri though, suggesting Pereira may need to manage his playing time better, and interestingly, despite not being a full-back by trade, the majority of Gomes’ appearances have seen him feature on the left side.

Consequently, with Cunha set for a spell on the sidelines, one tactically-minded fan has proposed playing Gomes at left wing-back and pushing Ait-Nouri further forward to fill in at one of two Number 10 roles.

Ait-Nouri doesn’t have experience of playing in an advanced attacking role, but he is incredibly intricate when it comes to having the ball at his feet.

While playing Ait-Nouri in Cunha’s position is an experiment Pereira probably won’t go for, considering Wolves’ league position and what’s at stake, it would certainly be interesting to see how the 23-year-old would do in a more technically demanding position.
