Mikel Arteta have lauded Gary O’Neil ahead of his sides game against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
Wolves will be at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon to take on the current league leaders, Mikel Arteta’s high flying Arsenal side.
But despite the tough opposition, Wolves will be desperate to respond well following the disappointing controversial defeat to Fulham on Monday.
VAR was the cause of the defeat, and it’s got to the point where it can’t be denied how hard done by the Molineux side are, with correct decisions Wolves would be far higher up the table.
This has been recognised by Mikel Arteta who has praised Wolves and admitted he expects a tough afternoon against Gary O’Neil‘s side.

Mikel Arteta praises Gary O’Neil
Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Wolves and Gary O’Neil during his press conference on Friday.
As reported by Arsenal club media, Arteta said: “They have a lot of quality. It’s not a coincidence, what they are doing. They perform really well, especially against the top sides.
“That speaks highly about the quality of the coaching staff – what Gary is doing, the way they prepare and control opponents, especially when they play at home. We’re going to have to try to break them down tomorrow.”
This is high praise coming from a manger like Arteta, and goes to show just how brilliant a job O’Neil has done in a short time at Wolves.
Arteta feels for Wolves’ VAR troubles
It’s no secret that Wolves have seen countless VAR calls go against them lately which has seen the club furious. Matt Hobbs more so than anyone as he picked up a ban for swearing at an official.
After Monday’s game, O’Neil came out against VAR, admitting that he is finally losing faith in VAR.
Arteta was asked about what he thought of O’Neil’s comments, to which he said: “I have sympathy with all my colleagues because I know how beautiful but at the same time how challenging our job is.
“The exposure that we have and those moments in front of the cameras are not easy ones, and you see that in many, many situations this season, and last season, and we are here to make the game better, and our clubs better, and we all need to win to do that.”
