‘Might end badly’ – Chris Sutton drops ominous score prediction ahead of West Ham vs Wolves

Wolves are in London tonight taking on West Ham United in a game that is being dubbed ‘El Sackico’.

Gary O’Neil is on the brink of the sack after two horrific defeats in the last two games to Bournemouth and Everton.

Speculation was rife that he’d go after the 4-0 loss to Everton. But O’Neil has been given the West Ham game to the surprise of almost everyone.

Should Wolves lose tonight, O’Neil will almost certainly be sacked. A draw would likely be no good to him either and even a win may not save him.

His opposite number Julen Lopetegui is also under severe pressure, and this game really is huge for both managers.

Quite literally anything could happen tonight, and pundit Chris Sutton has given his score prediction ahead of the game.

Gary O’Neil has lost all four of his previous meetings with West Ham, by an aggregate scoreline of 11-1.

Given the immense pressure and the past couple of results, he will do extremely well to take all three points tonight.

But pundit Chris Sutton does not foresee that happening, and actually reckons West Ham will win the game 3-1 in what would be an ominous outcome for O’Neil if it came to pass.

He told BBC Sport: “This might end badly for Gary O’Neil and Wolves and, while we are not seeing the West Ham we expected from Lopetegui, he may live to fight another day.

“The last time Wolves went to London, at the end of November, they beat Fulham 4-1 and enjoyed themselves.

“I can’t see the same happening here though, because of the number of goals they are conceding. The way they play under O’Neil, they are so open.

“West Ham are going to get some chances and although they missed a few against Leicester, I am backing them to take them this time.”

O’Neil on the brink

It would be no surprise tonight if O’Neil managed to pull a win out of the bag, which would then present Fosun with a real problem.

Right now the narrative is that O’Neil isn’t the man for the job, and Wolves are said to have been looking at replacements.

That just shows that they have lost faith in him.

There is an argument to say that O’Neil should probably be sacked even if Wolves do win tonight’s game. Purely because there has not been enough evidence that he’ll guide the club away from the relegation zone.

He has failed to improve the team defensively, although that situation is not entirely his fault. But he’s also been spared a few times by Matheus Cunha. As good as the Brazilian is, that is just not sustainable for O’Neil.
