It has been quite the season for Mario Lemina at Wolves.
The Gabon international came into this campaign on a real high, having just been named Supporters’ Player of the Season for 2023/24, and having become the new club captain.
Becoming the new captain was something most people got behind at the time.
But Lemina started the season in poor form, and there have been a couple of flashpoints for him this term.
He was very emotional following the defeat to Liverpool back in September. And then of course, there was the incident that effectively cost him the captaincy, when Lemina had a scuffle with Jarrod Bowen after the defeat to West Ham United.
Some have suggested the captain’s armband has weighed heavier than expected.
Now, somewhat surprisingly, Lemina has been linked with a move to Al-Shabab, which is the club Vitor Pereira has just come from, of course.
It’s been claimed they have been negotiating with the player, and it remains to be seen if he’ll seal an exit that would certainly be pretty surprising.
Some Wolves fans think Lemina should now be sold amid Al-Shabab transfer interest

On social media, some fans have been discussing the future of Lemina and what the club should do this month.
It is probably a conversation that few thought they would be having, ahead of the new season.
Lemina was brilliant last term, and that was underlined by him being named the Supporters’ Player of the Season.
Things can change very quickly in football though, and – amid these claims about Al-Shabab – some Wolves fans think Lemina’s time at the club could actually now be up after two years.
Wolves letting Lemina go would be risky
Lemina has definitely been below the standards he set last season.
But Wolves have to think carefully about letting him leave in this window. We saw last term how injuries came thick and fast and pretty much ruined the second half of Wolves’ season.

Lemina hasn’t yet played under the new manager due to injury, and in his absence, Andre and Joao Gomes have been great in a partnership.
It wouldn’t make sense to add Lemina back in, but there would surely be no harm in keeping him as a squad option, if he would be happy sticking around.
While many would happily see him go, this really could be a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’.
