Mick McCarthy gives his Arsenal prediction after witnessing Wolves in the flesh

Mick McCarthy was at Molineux for Wolves’ 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest last week, and it has led him to one conclusion ahead of Arsenal.

It’s 13 years since Mick McCarthy was in charge at Wolves, but he still follows the Old Gold to this day.

When the change in manager occurred, McCarthy gave advice to Rob Edwards about the challenge of taking over a relegation-bound team.

He wants Edwards to fight to the last and give Wolves fans something to cheer about, regardless of the end-of-season outcome.

That’s not what he saw against Forest last week, and he’s carrying that concern into the upcoming clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Mick McCarthy gives Wolves little chance against Arsenal

McCarthy obviously still has a soft spot for his old club, but he is honest in his assessment.

Chatting to Tony Pulis on their podcast, The Managers, he regretfully says: “I’m sorry for the Wolves, but I’ve got Arsenal to beat Wolves. I mean Arsenal, despite the fact they lost to Villa the other day, I still thought they were terrific.

“I know they’ll be in Europe, but Wolves are down at the bottom of the league with two points.

“I was there on Wednesday night, Nottingham Forest beat them. It wasn’t a great performance. So for them to go back and beat Arsenal, I just can’t see that happening at all.”

Should JSL be dropped for Wolves’ next game vs Arsenal?

These comments are unlikely to rock the boat. Wolves fans are fed up with Fosun, and getting a win over Arsenal isn’t even crossing their minds.

That being said, the manner of the performance is something everyone will care about.

It’s okay to be heavy underdogs, but Edwards’ side need to show some initiative at the Emirates.

Wolves haven’t beaten the Gunners since the pandemic

McCarthy doesn’t fancy Wolves’ chances, and recent history backs him up.

They've lost every game since… What chance do you give Wolves at the Emirates on Saturday?

Arsenal have won every meeting in the last four seasons, with Wolves scoring just twice in eight games.

This meeting with the top side in the division isn’t going to move the needle in either direction, but to fantasise for a second — a win over Arsenal would surely be a momentum shifter.

One can dream.
