Micah Richards believes Wolves are guilty of a bad habit, and it played a part in Sunday’s defeat to Aston Villa.
Wolves remain stuck on just two points, after losing 1-0 at Villa Park, and it’s now 17 games in the top-flight without a victory.
Rob Edwards’ side were improved compared to recent games, but it was the same old story with the Old Gold failing to get on the scoresheet.
Wolves had chances, and had a goal ruled out by VAR due to Jhon Arias being in an offside position.
Who do you think was Wolves’ best performer in the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa?
Emi Martinez was also on top form which was unlucky for Wolves.
Edwards found a number of positives for Wolves and will take encouragement. But ultimately, he may only be able to do so much with this crop of players – clearly, while the effort is very much there, there is just not enough quality right now.
The nature of the defeat against Villa was frustrating, and Micah Richards believes a bad habit was on show for Wolves which proved costly.
Micah Richards criticises Wolves over deep defending

Against Villa, Wolves could have gone one or two goals up.
The goal that Strand Larsen had ruled out was very unfortunate, and then the save by Martinez from Yerson Mosquera’s header was world-class.
In the end, a top strike from Boubacar Kamara was the difference between the two teams.
But while most have said there was much Wolves could have done to prevent such a clean strike, pundit Micah Richards feels Wanderers were too deep – and that’s something they’ve been guilty of previously.
He said on the Rest Is Football podcast: “I actually thought Wolves were decent today. They had some really good opportunities down the right-hand side, Villa’s left, in the first-half. They couldn’t capitalise on them.
“In the end, Villa’s quality just showed.
Wolves had chances but fell short against Aston Villa
“They were a lot better. The only thing is sometimes when they’re defending, they go a little bit too deep. I know they’re trying to cling on for a point after they’ve played so well. And then Kamara goes and bangs one in the top corner. And after all your hard work you’re thinking ‘Oh my God’.
“You’ve got to get out, you’ve got to get higher up the pitch. It was encouraging signs. We don’t expect Wolves to stay up, but they played a lot better today, I would say.”
Interestingly, pundit Marc Albrighton actually praised Wolves for their way of defending against Villa and how they made life difficult for the hosts.

Rob Edwards frustrated over Aston Villa goal
Wolves were quite deep when the ball came back to Kamara to score for Villa.
But that was perhaps because Wolves had a player out of commission in Joao Gomes, who had been challenged about 30 seconds prior.
It took a screamer for Aston Villa to break down a resilient Wolves defence 🚀
Rob Edwards felt Wolves should have had a free-kick for the challenge by Morgan Rogers on Gomes, whose delayed fall may not have done him any favours.
Replays showed clear contact on Gomes’ foot, and it was disappointing that referee Chris Kavanagh didn’t award a foul.
And we saw later in the game how VAR intervened in the game to look at a challenge by Jhon Arias, so the challenge on Gomes could surely have been looked at too.
