Micah Richards issues surprisingly passionate Wolves verdict not all fans will agree with

Wolves are having a truly awful season, but Micah Richards has been surprisingly complimentary about the team.

The Old Gold were beaten again at the weekend, losing 2-0 to Brentford at Molineux.

Wolves were in the game for around an hour, before conceding the first of two goals to Keane Lewis-Potter.

Wolves fans, genuinely, how worried are you now about Derby’s 07/08 points record (11)?

Unfortunately, the lack of bite up top meant that Wolves were never going to get back into it, and there was further misery for Jorgen Strand Larsen as he missed a late penalty.

The result meant that Wolves now have the joint-fewest points ever at Christmas.

It has been a truly terrible campaign and many fans have barely been able to believe what they have seen at times.

However, Micah Richards reckons Wanderers aren’t as bad as their two points suggests.

Rob Edwards could not have had a worse start since arriving in mid-November.

He has lost all six games he’s taken so far, and some have started to question the manager and some of the decisions he has been making.

It’s been concerning to see how Wolves have lost every game, despite being in a drawing position at half-time.

To have taken just two points by Christmas is calamitous. But Micah Richards spoke up for Wolves on the latest Rest is Football podcast episode.

He said: “Can I just say something about Wolves? They’re not as, well they are as bad.. but they’re not as bad as two points.

“Every single week, you look at the scores don’t you. And you just think, another loss for Wolves. But many times, when I’ve watched Wolves, they’ve been in games! And then it’s either a mistake at the back or someone not being able to score up front.

“But in terms of the course of the games, the eye test… I think now the confidence has drained out of them so much. I listened to Doherty’s interview after the game. they look deflated. Doherty’s interview, he’s basically just saying he’s got to look himself in the mirror, not just him, the rest of his teammates, and stand up and be counted for.

“At the moment, it’s just not there.

“You can’t tell me that Hwang’s a bad player. He’s a very good player. Larsen, who Newcastle tried to sign for £50 million. He’s not a bad player. Andre in midfield with Joao Gomes, they’re not bad players! It’s the confidence that’s not right at the moment.”

Wolves have some decent players, but a poor squad

Richards is right to suggest that there are some good players in this squad.

We have seen previously how Andre and Joao Gomes have really dominated games, and Strand Larsen got 14 non-penalty goals in the Premier League games.

The issue this season has been that the game-changers, creators and leaders were all offloaded. Now, the level has dipped significantly.

It is not enough to simply have a few good players.

You need to have leaders and creators, and if lots of Premier League-proven players leave, you simply ought to replace them with Premier League-proven players.
