Wolves captain Max Kilman has hailed Joao Gomes for his work-rate following his wonderful two-goal performance against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Brazilian had arguably his finest outing in Old Gold, since he signed for the club in January 2023.
Gomes scored a brace for the visitors, taking his total tally to three for the club, and the plaudits have been coming thick and fast for T’he Pitbull’ since the 2-1 win.
Gary O’Neil was keen to play things down a bit afterwards, and spoke about how he would like Gomes to improve on the ball.
But Wolves fans were delighted with Gomes’ contributions – as was Kilman…
Max Kilman hails Joao Gomes after brilliant performance for Wolves against Tottenham

Gomes obviously made headlines for his two goals.
The first was a header from a Pablo Sarabia corner. It was poor marking from Spurs, but a pretty good finish from Gomes into the far top corner.
His second was an impressive counter by Wolves which Gomes actually started. He flicked the ball Pedro Neto who carried the ball a huge distance to the Spurs box, before finding Gomes again for the finish.
So a brace for Gomes, but Kilman made sure to point out how good the rest of his performance actually was. He said (Wolves Express): “Regardless of the two goals he scored, which were really good, his work rate was unbelievable and the amount of times he won the ball in the midfield. Him and Mario playing as a two in midfield, obviously with the help of the wingers sometimes but, they initially covered so much space, and did a really good job.”
Joao Gomes is always everywhere for Wolves
Gomes feels like a player Wolves have been crying out for for years.
Wanderers had Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker as the main midfield options for the first few seasons after promotion from the Championship, and there was never a great deal of mobility there, as good as they all were.
Gomes just gets through so much work in that midfield alongside Mario Lemina, and it is a joy to watch, just like the technical ability of Neves and Moutinho was previously.
The Brazilian just seems like he’s everywhere for Wolves, and his knack for picking the pocket of an opponent and winning the ball back is remarkable – Dave Edwards feels he’s the best ball-winner he’s ever seen at Molineux.
It’s going to be very exciting indeed to see how he develops over time at Wolves – he could truly become a special player.
