It’s only December, and Wolves defender Max Kilman has already surpassed the number of minutes he played in total the Premier League in 2020/21.
The 24-year-old has been the breakout star at Molineux this term.
Last season he was in and out of the side under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Despite looking pretty good most times he played, he would lose his place here and there.
From February 19 to April 24, he didn’t play a single minute.
During his time out of the starting XI, many fans were wondering why he hasn’t playing.
It appeared he was simply out of favour.
Since the arrival of Bruno Lage in the summer though, there has been no doubt about Kilman’s status as a Wolves regular.
He has played every single minute so far in 2021/22 (1530). Last term, he played 1486.
Very soon he will surpass the number of appearances he made in 2020/21 (20). Currently he’s made 17.
It really has been a fantastic rise for the former Maidenhead United youngster, who is the only player to be nominated for every Player of the Month award so far at Wolves.
Max Kilman minutes total in 2021/22 shows Lage has huge faith
Few probably would have anticipated Max Kilman playing this many minutes so far in 2021/22.
People hoped/expected him to have more involvement under Lage. But he really has been the main man, playing even more minutes than captain Conor Coady.
He absolutely deserves it as well, and it’s exciting to imagine how much better he could become.
It was recently reported that Kilman is on the radar of England manager Gareth Southgate.
Hopefully, him being ever-present will soon lead to that first call-up.
