Matt Jarvis states the minimum points haul Wolves should get from Sunderland and Burnley

Wolves have made improvements recently, but remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

Wanderers again came so close to a first Premier League win of the season last weekend against Brighton, conceding late on to Jan Paul van Hecke.

In the game before, Wolves let in a last-gasp equaliser against Tottenham Hotspur, meaning Wanderers may well have been sat on six points by now.

The margins are fine, and Wolves have to start seeing games out if they are to navigate away from the relegation zone.

And the next two games do offer a big opportunity to do that – and Matt Jarvis has insisted there is a minimum points tally Wolves should be aiming for.

Wolves were again handed a difficult start in terms of the fixtures.

Fans did not expect too much upon learning who Wolves would be facing in the opening weeks, although not taking a point from the first five games was disappointing.

Wolves’ fixtures from gameweek five to 10 are easier on paper, and now it’s Sunderland away followed by Burnley at home.

The newly-promoted sides have started the new season well, especially the Black Cats who are flying high in ninth.

For former winger Matt Jarvis, these games are huge – and he feels a haul of four points should be the absolute minimum.

He said: “These are must-win games now, really. If you’re trying to get in a position where you still haven’t won, these two are huge opportunities to go and get the three points.

“You’ve got to come away with a minimum of four, in my opinion, from these two.”

Jarvis is right – four points is the minimum requirement for Wolves

It is hard to argue with Jarvis – who believes not winning has weighed heavily on the Wolves players.

Ideally, Wolves will win both of these games and kickstart their season. And some will feel there’s a decent chance of six points after the clear improvements seen in the last three games.

But four is the minimum. Sunderland at the Stadium of Light will be tricky, and they will come into next weekend’s game feeling confident.

But the home game against Burnley is simply must-win for Wolves.

The Clarets have not particularly impressed so far, and most expect them to be fighting against the drop, so Wolves simply have to get a win against Scott Parker’s side.
