Matt Hobbs has claimed Yerson Mosquera left everybody impressed in the few weeks he was back at Wolves after his loan spell at FC Cincinnati.
The Colombia international enjoyed a really productive 2023 over in the MLS, playing a full season.
He was one of the highest-performing defenders in the league, and made 35 appearances across all competitions.
Pathways manager Steve Davis visited the player towards the end of his stint, and he reported back that Mosquera had been ‘outstanding’.
Mosquera returned to Wolves recently and was with the squad for a few weeks as the club decided what to do with him. He was named on the bench a few times by Gary O’Neil, but the decision was taken to loan him out again, and he will now spend the rest of the season on loan at Villarreal.
Matt Hobbs claims Yerson Mosquera really impressed Gary O’Neil and the Wolves players upon return from Cincinnati

Wolves confirmed yesterday evening that Mosquera had made his move to La Liga club Villarreal for the rest of the season.
Mosquera had been on the bench for Wolves for the Premier League game against Brighton on Monday night, but was then at Villarreal’s training ground the morning for a medical and to finalise his move.
It will be a good opportunity for Mosquera to test himself in a better league than the MLS.
Wolves have high hopes for the player and believe he can genuinely become a first-team option.
Hobbs was speaking about Mosquera and his latest move, and revealed that the youngster actually left his teammates so impressed during the brief time he was back at the club after his Cincinnati loan.
He said (Wolves official): “Yerson’s extremely popular with the players here and they’ve been really impressed with how he’s returned – on and off the pitch he’s matured. He understands the role better and his ability with one versus one defending has improved, which the players have commented on. Everyone’s been impressed by him, Gary, the players and the staff.”
A good opportunity for Mosquera
It is really interesting to hear Hobbs talk about Mosquera and how he’s made a real impression on the Wolves players since returning from the States.
There was quite a bit of hype around him when he signed for £4.5 million from Atletico Nacional in 2021, but sadly his development was halted by injury.
His loan spell at Cincinnati helped to get him playing again and now he can really get back on track with this latest move to Villarreal.
La Liga is a big step up from the MLS and Mosquera can test himself against some top players.
Hopefully he does well, and can return to Molineux in the summer ready to challenge for a place in the Wolves starting XI.
