Matt Doherty makes alarming admission about Chelsea defeat as he makes demand of Wolves teammates

Wolves lost their latest Premier League game against Chelsea, and Matt Doherty has made a somewhat alarming admission about the game.

Wolves fell to a 3-1 defeat against the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

Vitor Pereira had been hoping to take advantage of Chelsea’s poor form of late, but there was never any real danger of Wolves getting a result.

Chelsea were the better side throughout, and poor defending once again proved costly for Wolves, with two more goals going in from set-pieces.

Too many big-name players had off nights, and Wolves fans criticised star man Matheus Cunha for looking disinterested.

Rayan Ait-Nouri copped some criticism from Wolves fans too, but collectively it was just a very poor display once again.

Matt Doherty – who scored Wolves’ goal – spoke after the game, and made a rather worrying suggestion.

Good individual performances were few and far between last night.

Joao Gomes was easily Wolves’ best player but him aside, there were many positives to take.

Doherty offered his thoughts about the game after the full-time whistle, and admitted that his side just weren’t at it from the very beginning.

He said (via Wolves official): “Everybody knows about Chelsea’s quality, but I just didn’t feel like we were at the races, right from the start. There were periods in the game where we were pressing well, and we looked like we might do something, but not for long enough.

“Against teams like Chelsea, but against every team in the Premier League really, you have to be on it for 90 minutes, and I thought there were just too many times during the game where we just weren’t on it.”

The defending, especially on set-pieces, has been an issue all season for Wolves.

And Doherty is in no doubt that things need to change, as he issued a big demand to his teammates.

“We need to start putting our head in where it hurts and defend these set pieces with an ‘over my dead body’ attitude.”

Wolves need a huge week in the transfer window

Wolves were really poor against Chelsea and the defensive woes show no signs of letting up.

The change to a back three with wing-backs hasn’t really worked, and Pereira may now need a really big week in the transfer window.

Wolves brought in Emmanuel Agbadou who looks like he could be a strong addition, although he’s had some shaky moments in his first three games.

But at least one other central defender needs to come in to help Wolves tighten up.

That said, one of the most important things for Pereira to do is to stop Wolves conceding so many goals from set-piece scenarios.
