Wolves have entered a new era after confirming Rob Edwards as their new manager last week, and Matt Doherty has been speaking about supporting the new boss.
Wolves finally announced Edwards following a 10-day search after sacking Vitor Pereira.
Wolves had initially looked to bring back Gary O’Neil.
But O’Neil withdrew from the process having had reservations about the club’s structure and direction.
Wolves quickly pivoted to Rob Edwards, eventually prising him away from a very unhappy Middlesbrough.
There’s been plenty of criticism for Edwards and his decision to walk away from Boro. But in his statement Edwards confirmed Wolves were a dream move, and the only club he would have left Boro for.
Now the work begins for Edwards, and Matt Doherty has been speaking about his new boss.
Matt Doherty set to be Rob Edwards’ right-hand man

There is no overstating how big a job Edwards has on his hands.
He is to be commended for coming in and taking it on, knowing there are so many issues to fix.
But Wolves are confident in the Edwards appointment and believe he will unite the club.
And Doherty is also firmly behind the hire – and the Irishman has stated he’ll be on hand to help Edwards as one of the leaders in the camp.
Rob Edwards’ first interview as Wolves boss
He said (via Wolves official): “We’ve got a very good personal relationship, and anything that he needs from me, any feelings that I have or what I’ve seen, I’ll be there for him 100 per cent.
“I am one of the captains at the end of the day, so he’ll have our full support, and we’ll make sure that the rest of the squad is on board as well.
“He can ask me whatever he wants, and I’ll give him an honest answer of how I see things, and we’ll have a great relationship – we always have had.”
Doherty will be vital for Edwards

This will be a very difficult job for Edwards, so it’s good to hear Doherty immediately offering his support to the new manager.
Few know the club better than Doc, and obviously he already has an existing relationship with Edwards, which is bound to help.
When Wolves came calling, the decision was clear for Rob Edwards
Of course, Toti Gomes is the club captain, and the defender will surely be to hand to help Edwards too.
But one gets the sense that Doherty could really be Edwards’ right-hand man moving forward, and there is probably a good chance that the Irishman starts regularly.
